Recruiting Tips
Where Do I Start?
Players who want to be recruited sometimes do not know where to start. Ohio Queens is here to assist you in this process. Since all our coaches have played and/or coached at the college level, we all understand the process and how overwhelming it can be.
To start, players need to make a list of potential school where they would like to play. Players should think about if the school offers their major or majors, distance from home, and how much the school costs before adding a school to their list. From there they can start narrowing it down. Remember, players are student-athletes so players should keep academics at the forefront of their decision.
How It Works
One of the best ways to be seen by college coaches is playing for a club team. This give players more opportunity to get in front of a college coach. But we cannot depend on the chance. That is why it is so important to reach out to college BEFORE you go to play at a tournament. This give coaches a chance to plan their time at the tournament so they can make sure to see you. If you wait until the last minute to let them know they will most likely not be able to watch you because their day has already been planned. Ohio Queens works with players on email construction and communication timing to ensure their best chance of a coach from a college they like will see them.
When you email make sure to get to the point and make it easy to read. College coaches can be looking at dozens of potential recruit emails in a day. You want yours to stand out and make them want to see you. Coach Ashley is our director of recruiting because she has years of experience with finding recruits and knows what college coaches are looking for in a recruit.
Rules
There are different recruiting rule depending on which division you would like to play. Coaches are not allowed to just talk to anymore but recruits can email and show interest at any time. Junior year is when open communication is allowed between coaches and recruits. Many division 1 schools have their top recruiting picked out before then so the earlier you start the more likely you are to get on a coaches list.
